Tragedy a greek word meaning (goat-song) and possibly refering originally to the sacrifice of a goat in the vegetation and fertility rituals assoc. Tragedy means a serious drama typically describing aconflict betweenthe protagonist and a suerior for ( as destiny) and having a sorrowfullor disasterous conclusion that elicits pity or terror. But to me tragedy means disaster something bad that hapened to someone or to meny people at the same time.
In the story of the great gatsby tragedy played a big role throghout the book. For example when Daisy ran over myrtal or when George shot Gatsby becaus Tom told him Gatsby owned the car that killed myrtal. Even when gatsbydied Daisy still stayed with Tom it's like she didn't even cair that Gatsby died for her and that's kind of like a tragedy too.
People well known use the word tragedy in a quote for example:
Oscar Wild who said "Their are only two tragedies in life : one is not getting what one wants ,and the other is getting it," He also said, "Always forgive your enemies-nothing annoys them so much."
Also their was James Earl Jones who said "one of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart thatyou can't utter."
the websites wher I found tragedy is Braintanote marrian webster, ans in google ( tragedy quots) as the key word. The word tragedy in french and latin means "Tragedia," and in greek is "Tragoidia."
