The Hero’s journey is all about a hero that in which he encounters magic, monsters and difficult obstacles in order to achieve his mission or dream. In the book The Giver. Jonas Is born with a special gift that no one knows about but the Giver. He is very different from the society he lives in. He starts going through different things in life like feelings, which no one else has felt it. He wants to express how he feels to people but he can’t because no one else has felt anything like what he’s feeling.
Jonas goes through the most unexpected tasks that on other person could’ve imagined. He starts feeling pain, love, joy, happiness, and violence. He stays strong and keeps going at his task. He experiences very harsh images and pain. He starts having visions of what war is and what peace is too.
Jonas encounters images of prisoners escape and he starts thinking what would happen if he ran away with the memories. The giver told Jonas a story about what had happened in the past with the thought to be receiver. Readers doubt that Jonas will not be strong enough to do what he is going to have to do. He sees how people are released and it really brings him pain and sadness followed by anger. He doesn’t like what he has to go through so he starts planning out what he’s going to do with his little brother Gabe.
Now knowing the pain that the community commits, he releases memories to Gabe and the whole community. He decides to run away with Gabe along his side to save him. He feels guilt about holding everything back, which a hero also has to go through, just so that everyone does not experience any emotional feelings or pain.
Jonas’s acts in this book give him the courage and strength of what a hero is. His intelligence allows him to know what to expect when he runs away. Even fear grows inside of him but that’s what makes a hero a hero. His journey consisted of pain, love and everything that made him strong, just to save one person.
