Burt is an old guy with big dreams. His dream is to go to America and break the land speed record. Burt leaves New Zealand to go to America to break a speed record with his Indian. He leaves behind his key to his shed to the next door neighbor kid, aswell as the care for his chickens and the lemon tree. He arrives to America and encounters several things he's never seen before, like gay men, lots of vehicles, and driving on the right side of the road, but also makes new friends along the way.
Burt gets a taxi and goes to hotel to stay at. The taxi driver drops him of at a hotel and thats were he meets Tina, the gay man. He decides he is not going back tell he breaks the record. The next day he goes out to get a car to get to the track. He buys buys a car and meets up with the mexican salesman whichhelps him make a wagon for his bike.
He starts off his journey to the race track and meets new people that he becomes friends with. On the road he meets up with an indian who gives him something to put in his drinking water so he wouldn't go thirsty. He also spends the night at an old ladies house who gives him a spare of tire.
He arrives at the trackin Nevada where he meets Jim, a guy with a fast cool looking car. Jim helps Burt sign up for he could run his bike on the track. The people thought he wasn't going to go fast but amazedthem with his speed. He breaks the record and is happy for fulfilling his dream.
He goes back to new Zealand with a new land speed record. Later on in his lifehe goes back to America and breaks nine more land speed records.
